- Berry Junction connected Muskegon to Hart and Fremont.
- The tracks were built by the Chicago and West Michigan Railroad, followed by the Pier Marquette, followed by the Chesapeake & Ohio/Chessie System, and finally the CXS. It is currently the Michigan Shore railroad.
- The actual junction is about 30 feet Northeast of where the trail crosses River Road. The Wye there is where they can turn a locomotive and cars around.
- The track going East goes to Fremont. At one time it went to White Cloud where it joined the line going from Grand Rapids to Traverse City. The main customer on the Fremont branch was Gerber Baby Food Company and the Co-op. The train to Fremont used one locomotive.
- The track going North went to Whitehall/Montague then up to Hart and for a while on to Pentwater. Montague customers were Hooker Chemicals, Dupont, and Union Carbide. Whitehall customers were Ott Chemical, Story Chemical, and Genesco/Whitehall Leather. Refrigerator and box cars were delivered to the canneries at New Era, Shelby, and Hart. Those cars were brought to the “North Yard” in Muskegon at Ottawa and Giddings streets then on to Holland and Grand Rapids. The train to Hart had 2 locomotives due to heavy loads.
- In the 80’s the North branch was cut back to the North Muskegon Industrial Park. Current customers there are the Nugent Sand Company that still has a sand loader visible from River Rd. Also used by Bayer Agriculture Products (now owned by BASF). The Fremont branch is no longer used. The Wye junction is used for switching operations and car storage for Mid-Michigan/ Michigan Shoreline Railroad/ and Genesee and Wyoming.
- During the last years of the CXS Railroad in Muskegon, the Fremont and Whitehall/Montague trains were combined. The train would put the Fremont cars on the North Wye, then head to Montague with the Dupont cars. On the return trip, the Montague cars were put on the Main. Then they would pick up the Fremont cars and take them to Fremont. On the way back they would pickup the Montague cars and take them to the North Yard. Later the cars would be on the Cannonball to Grand Rapids or Holland.
